Writing Strategies to Use at Home
- Write from left to right.
- Use a finger to space words.
- Think about what the word looks like.
- Think about whether the word is a long or short word
- Stretch out the word and saying it slowly to listen to the sounds.
- Think about the letters that could represent those sounds.
- Write the beginning, middle, and ending sounds that you hear.
- Think about other words you know. Is this word anything like another word you know?
- Use the knowledge of word families.
- Use books or magazines to find words.
- Point to each word as you read your writing with an adult.
- Ask yourself, “Does my story make sense?”
